The Riva is a classy and pricy hotel set in a century-old building on Hvar town harbourfront. The 54 rooms over three floors are seriously trendy – note the see-through shower doors and artsy Hollywood themes (James Dean or Audrey Hepburn?). Strong reds, contemporary design and nude murals in the hallways give the hotel a hedonistic edge. The Riva also has its cosy nooks however; the sloping-ceilinged attic room (number 313) is one of the cutest on the island. All have flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi. Amenities are also dictated by space – there’s no room for a gym or a pool – but ample attention has been given to the upscale Roots Mediterranean restaurant and the terrace BB bar, where you can look forward to tasty cocktails and a summer of regular DJ appearances.
