One of the best – if not the best – inland restaurants. It’s not well signposted – to reach it, take the main road out of Buje, then a track on the left-hand side a kilometre before Brtonigla. Young owner Marko Morgan produces simple dishes based on authentic recipes. Italians love it, travelling regularly to eat here, enjoying the large covered terrace with a view of the vines. Marko lets top ingredients, all locally sourced, and attention to detail take centre stage. The business involves the whole family. Morgan senior hunts for game, while his mother and sister work in the kitchen. There’s no fixed menu. Morgan relays to customers what is available that day, and invites them to take an aperitif. Time-tested specialities are based on the season; they might be home-made polenta with game or slow-cooked and marinated boškarin ox.
